Article: TriCounty Times Living barefoot running

This is a common misconception about barefoot running. It doesn’t force the runner, but rather restores the correct functioning of the locomotive system. By allowing the foot to feel the ground, involuntary reflexes trigger “impact moderating behavior.

The point of running barefoot is to force the runner to run and land their feet properly.

Article: Running barefoot, bizarre or beneficial? – Times LIVE

If I had listened to the pseudo science behind cushioned soled shoes, I would have never solved my repeating ankle injuries and I would have never invented VivoBarefoot. The science needs updating guys.

The shoeless stride is gaining momentum, especially now that shoe companies are targeting “barefooters” with minimalist shoe designs. But orthopedic doctors weigh in on the pros and cons.

Article: Running Barefoot: Training Tips

This was listed as one on the disadvantages of barefoot running, but surely it’s a disadvantage of running shoes?

Running Barefoot: Training Tips

If you have been a heel striker, it takes some time and much work to train your body to forefoot or midfoot strike, especially because you need stronger feet and calf muscles. Runners may be at greater risk of developing Achilles tendonitis when they switch from heel striking to forefoot or midfoot striking (see training tips below).

Interesting conversation. This comment made me laugh out loud.

I’m pretty skeptical that there will ever be much in the way of research that proves that barefoot running is the best way to run.  Scientific research has to be funded, and the ones doing the funding are usually the people with a product to sell.  I don’t know of any companies in the business of selling feet.

Article: Barefoot marathoning: A healthier way to run?

The medical community seriously need to do their homework before making false statements like this:

Barefoot marathoning: A healthier way to run?

What has the medical community said?
Plenty. Medical professionals quoted in The Times claim “there is no scientific research that shows barefoot running reduces injuries.” Other doctors believe that while shoeless running isn’t inherently dangerous, “bare feet aren’t meant to support running on modern day hard-top surfaces.” For all of running shoes’ flaws, they “excel at diminishing the force of impact on hard ground.”

Barefoot Running University » Terra Plana VivoBarefoot EVO II Review

An interesting review which sings the praises of the new VivoBarefoot EVO II. Mine are currently being shipped to me, and after reading this review I looking forward to seeing how they feel.

I would be hard-pressed to recommend any significant improvements to this shoe.  I think Terra Plana has improved the basic design of the shoe to the point where improvement is unnecessary.  I would like to see specific models designed for specific conditions.  For example, a lighter model with a thinner sole would be ideal for short road races.  Another model with more aggressive tread would be good for muddy conditions.

The 29-year-old donned prosthetic feet for a scene which saw him running barefoot.

Film bosses were apparently concerned the star would injure himself and decided the prosthetics, which came complete with solid soles, were the best way of protecting his real feet.
